GOVERNMENT has challenged officers in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries to promote livestock production in all chiefdoms in Mwinilunga district as a lucrative enterprise.

Minister of National Development Planning Alexander Chiteme said that was because livestock production was another profitable business that chiefdoms in the district must engage in and take advantage of the huge market of goats in the Middle East.

Mr Chiteme said this in Mwinilunga district at the weekend during the Chidika Chanvula Traditional ceremony in Chief Kanyama of the Lunda people.

He said government would continue to encourage the development of agriculture and fisheries value chains in all communities with abundant arable land and water resources with a view to expand both sub sectors.

He further urged all the farmers in the district to adopt smart agriculture and diversify their production and engage in value addition.

Mr Chiteme however, encouraged the local people to take keen interest in various investments in the district that would take root to derive maximum benefit and improve livelihood.-ZANIS
