A MAN who broke into a bar and stole assorted items worth K6, 085 will serve two years in prison with hard labour.
Magistrate Martha Miti slapped Nyambe with the sentence after he was found guilty of stealing the items.
Particulars of the offence before Magistrate Miti are that Nyambe Muyamayo committed the offence on May 14.
The court heard that Muyamayo was apprehended at the scene.
In admitting the charge Muyamayo said he has learnt a lesson and pleaded for mercy from the court.
He said prison conditions were bad and that he had already contracted a disease. He said people should value their freedom and desist from committing crimes.
Magistrate Miti said Muyamayo had wasted the courts time by denying the charge when he knew that he had committed the offence.
She said the offence of breaking into a building and stealing carried sentences of between five and seven years respectively.
“You want to appear innocent knowing that you stole the items and you were apprehended at the scene,” she said.
The court jailed Muyamayo two years with hard labour.
