A 28-year-old mini-bus driver in Ndola has been ordered to pay 15,000 for deflowering a 20-year-old girl.
In this case, Kasonde Catherine 40, a resident of Kabushi Township, sued Peter Ngwila 28, of Lubuto Township for compensation of damages of virginity of her daughter.
Ms Kasonde told the Kabushi Local Court that from the time her daughter got pregnant, the family had tried to summon Ngwila but he never showed up.
She was testifying before Kabushi Local Court presiding magistrate, Mildred Namwizye sitting with Evelyn Nalwizya.
“Now my daughter has already delivered and her child is even turning one year. The man has still not bothered to come so that we can discuss as per tradition,” Ms Kasonde added.
In his testimony, Ngwila said he failed to find time to go for the meetings due to his busy schedule and added that he had no intention of marrying the girl as their relationship was not based on marriage.
The court ordered Ngwila to compensate Ms Kasonde K15,000, with the first instalment being a K1000 then k500 every month.
