WORKS on the construction of a farmers training centre and setting up of a high technology commercial farm by an Israeli company in Kawambwa’s Luena Farm Block have advanced.
ZANIS reports that Green 2000 Zambia, Kawambwa Site Manager, Beuke Staphanie told Luapula Province Minister, Nickson Chilangwa who has inspected works, that most earth works on the site had been completed.
Mr Stephanie said the structures and materials for the erection of the school and Green houses will start arriving this month.
He said the company had so far cleared over 1000, out of the allocated 2000 hectares of land for the establishment of a commercial farm.
He said that the commercial farm which will have 16 centre pivots will produce high value crops for local and export markets.
And Mr Chilangwa who was accompanied by Kawambwa Town Council Chairman, Kalumba Chifumbe said the Green 2000 project followed President Edgar Lungu’s State visit to Israel which culminated into a bilateral cooperation such as in agriculture and energy.
Mr Chilangwa said the project was going to register over 1,000 farmers for its out-grower package and would lift thousands out of poverty.
The minister expressed happiness with the pace at which the project is advancing, despite the company moving on site only last year.
Mr Chilangwa also thanked the Head of State for sending a delegation of Ministers to Angola to learn more on how a similar project was being done in that country.
He said President Lungu directed that the Green 2000 Angola model to be replicated in farming blocks on the Copperbelt and Muchinga Provinces. – ZANIS
