THE Choma Subordinates Court has found its former Mayor with a case to answer in a matter in which he is accused of failing to declare interest that saw his wife being allocated a residential plot.
This is in a matter in which Professor Mwaanga, 41, of Silukiya Village in Choma stands charged with one count of conflict of interest.
Particulars of the offence are that on dates unknown but between 2014 and 2016 in Choma, Mwaanga, being Mayor of Choma Municipal Council, while acting together with other persons unknown, failed to declare interest in writing .
This was when he took part in the selection process for allocation of plots in which his wife, Dainess Maingaila, was an applicant.
When the matter came up for ruling, Resident Magistrate Ethel Phiri said after analyzing evidence from two state witnesses she was satisfied that a prima facie case had been established against Mwaanga and put him on his defence.
However, the matter could not proceed to defence because Mwaanga was not ready but indicated that he would call three witnesses to help him defend himself.
The matter comes up on January 27, 2020 for defence while Mwaanga’s bond was extended.
