A POLICE Post in Kabwata constituency has been named after former Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD) national secretary Richard Kachingwe.

Kabwata Member of Parliament (MP) Given Lubinda said during a ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the police post, which will be located in Ward Six, the facility would be named after Major Kachingwe who was its sixth MP.

Mr Lubinda said the decision was made to honour all the members of Parliament who had served the constituency in the past.

He said his office realised that one of the needs for the people in his area was security.

It was for that reason he had come up with the project to build five posts to carter for all the five wards in the constituency.

Mr Lubinda said having five wards and five MP’s before him it was right to honour all the people that had served as MPs.

“Some time back in 2008, I decided to embark on building five police posts for Kabwata Constituency because we had five wards and also five MPs before me,’’ he said.

“Like Mayor Miles Sampa said, I did not bother weather one was dead or alive but we first built Mary Mwango police post because she was the first MP. Then Maxwell Sibongo in Kamwala South because he was the second,” Mr Lubinda said.

“This police post should have been built in 2010 and I promised my friend Richard (Kachingwe). I said ‘I will build a police post in Kabwata and name it after you and it will be number five’.”

Mr Lubinda said he was happy that his promise was coming to fruition.

Maj Kachingwe said he was highly honoured to have a post named after him while he was still alive.

“I’m greatly humbled. I’m so happy, and first of all it’s very important that we honour the living, not the dead, because I will not be there when I die,” he said.

Maj Kachingwe promised total support to the police when it became operational and that he would ensure furniture was sourced for the building for use by police the officers who would be deployed there.
