OVER K155 million was last year paid in life pension by the Local Authorities Superannuation Fund (LASF) to its members.

The authority has also spent over K86 million to pay 2,836 retirees in full while 919 had received partial payments towards their retirement benefits and pensions amounting more than K68 million.

LASF public relations manager, Chishimba Milongo, said the Fund in October last year embarked on a programme of paying outstanding lump sum and pension arrears to members of the scheme.

Mr Milongo explained in a statement that this followed the receipt of K251 million funding released by Government on September 25, 2019.

“As can be seen from the figures above, the payment process is still ongoing and we wish to assure all those pensioners and other beneficiaries countrywide who have not yet received their lump sum retirement benefits and pensions to be patient as we will ensure that as many members are paid as soon as possible,” he said.

He said LASF had observed that some retirees did not have active bank accounts while some others had not validated their counts or submitted requisite details using the prescribed forms to the Fund.

He said LASF therefore encouraged retirees to activate and validate their bank account details to facilitate payment of their benefits.
