Government has spent over K300 000 towards supporting vulnerable school going children in Kalulushi district on the Copperbelt.
Kalulushi District Social Welfare Officer, Mwiche Simasiku says 519 children have since benefited from the funds.
Ms Simasiku said this during a stakeholders meeting on service efficiency and effectiveness for the Vulnerable Children and Adolescents (SEEVCA) project in the district.
She stated that last year the Department of Social Welfare paid about K364, 000 for school fees for the vulnerable children under the programme.
Ms Simasiku said her office has since embarked on sensitizing stakeholders on the programme to ensure that the public is aware of its existence in the area.
SEEVCA is a five year government funded project which receives technical support from USAID and UNICEF meant to cushion the challenges in the social cash transfer programme. – ZANIS
