STANBIC bank’s commitment and investment in Zambia goes beyond market-leading banking services and economic support, says chief executive officer, Leina Gabaraane.
Mr Gabaraane said as a financial institution in Zambia, the bank was for-profit organisation.
He however said Stanbic Bank Zambia supported quite a number of initiatives in the country, one if which was in agriculture.
Mr Gabaraane was speaking when he handed over a cheque worth K50, 000 to the Zambia Police Service towards the hosting of the Police Sports Day at Lusaka’s police headquarters.
“In fact, we are the largest lender to the agricultural sector, we are the largest lender to the mining sector. And today as we speak, we have been the largest bank in Zambia and the leading bank in Zambia,” he said.
Mr Gabaraane also said the bank did not just believe it existed for profit, but that there was a lot more that it should be providing to the community in Zambia.
“Our mantra is that because we are Zambian, we have to move Zambia forward. But an important pillar of what we do as a citizen of Zambia and moving her forward, is in our corporate social responsibility.
“There are quite a number of initiatives that we’ve done as an organisation towards CSR, which spans the provision of housing to the less privileged… we also provide support to mothers’ shelters, provides support to education,” he said.
Mr Gabaraane said the Bank was aware that through sport and healthy living, the cost of health in an economy would reduce quite significantly.
Sport, Mr Gabaraane said, was therefore quite critical.
“But above all, as a financial institution in Zambia, we believe that we also need to be contribution to reducing unemployment. And through sport, unemployment can actually be reduced quite substantially. “The importance of sport in any economy can never be underestimated,” he said.
